Summer Integrated Outdoor Adventure Day Camp
Integrated Outdoor Adventure Camp

School is out! What better way to spend a summer day than hanging out with friends and exploring our big backyard, Western Colorado.

Join us for our Integrated Outdoor Adventure Day Camp for youth and adults, ages 8 to the oldest kid at heart.

At Day Camp, individuals with disabilities spend time outdoors exploring their abilities in a in a safe and therapeutic environment. Our camp allows campers the opportunity to work directly with high school volunteers, which in return provides an integrated therapeutic value. We have a simple goal for our Day Camp: to provide opportunities for outdoor recreation through innovative, barrier-free environments.

When?
Wednesday and Thursdays throughout the summer. Typical camp hours are 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Some days have extended hours.

Where do we meet?
We will meet at the CDA office, 740 Gunnison Ave., downtown Grand Junction (located in the Center for Independence building). We will depart for all activities from this location and that's where we will return at the end of the day.

What to bring?
All participants and volunteers need to bring a sack lunch, a water bottle, medications in their original bottles, sun screen, bug spray, towel, bathing suit, change of clothes, light jacket, appropriate clothes/shoes for the activity. This means good shoes for running and hiking, warmer clothes for when we travel in elevation, any outdoor toys (safe) you want to share, and most of all, a good attitude and willingness to be flexible.
What will be provided: experienced, fun, safety-conscious supervision, water, sunscreen, and life jackets. Please let us know of any needs you may have.

What will we be doing all day?
Day trips of rafting, kayaking, fishing, guided hikes on the Grand Mesa, hiking and picnicking at Powderhorn Resort, team games, learning outdoor survival skills with Mesa County Search and Rescue volunteers, beaching/swimming, arts and crafts with local artists, volleyball, frisbee, yoga, therapeutic drumming, bicycling, conquering local peaks, horseback riding, rock climbing and more! We welcome any ideas for a great outdoor experience. See the schedule above.

What if it rains?
We will still have fun. We have options of going to the Dinosaur Museum, Indoor Rock Climbing Gym, Kidzplex, Museum of Western Colorado, Botanical Museum, and other indoor facilities in the Grand Junction area.

What if I need to contact staff during the day?
You can reach us at 970-257-1222.

How do I join the fun?
Sign-up online (above) or call 970-257-1222.
