How To Obtain Level I Adaptive Certification

The level I disciplines have been combined as follows:

• Cognitive / Visual Impairments
• Mono-Ski / Bi-Ski
• Three-Track / Four-Track

Level I certification means that you have passed an exam in ONE of three modules (Cognitive / VI or Mon-/Bi-Ski or Three-/Four Track).

1. Teacher Prep / Functional Skiing: 2-Day Course
   The only people who are exempt from this 2-day course are instructors who are already PSIA level 1 Alpine or above certified.
   
   
2. Functional Skiing: 1-day exam
   The only people who are exempt from this 2-day course are instructors who are already PSIA level 1 Alpine or above certified.
   
   
3. Adaptive Module Day: 1-day exam. Discipline: Cognitive / Visual Impairments
   
   
4. Completion of the appropriate sections of the take-home written test.

Candidates that are taking the functional skiing exam must pass it before taking the adaptive module. We will assist you with strengthening your skiing skills through series of short clinics prior to taking the course and the exam. The certification process will be broken down into two segments: 2-day Functional Skiing clinic and a week later 2-day Functional Skiing exam and Cognitive/VI exam.

Clinic fee is $94 for the two days.
Exam fees are $94 per day - $188 for the two days.

If you teach 10 days this season, CDA will reimburse you $100.00 for your certification after the season.

We will establish the dates for these two segments once we have at least 8 candidates that would like to become certified.

Clinics, courses and the exams will be held at Powderhorn Resort.

A few people might be caught in transition from old to new certification systems. Instructors who passed a level I exam previously and would like to continue toward level II must pass the module that contains the discipline that was achieved in level I but will only be assessed upon the discipline not previously tested.

Level II certification means that you have passed an exam in ALL THREE modules (Cognitive / VI and Mon-/Bi-Ski and Three-/Four Track). The completion of Level II adaptive certification can be thought of as Level I adaptive certification coupled with the successful completion of the two remaining adaptive modules.

Level II Adaptive Certification steps:

• Functional Skiing Day
• Cognitive/Visual Impairments Module
• Mono-Ski / Bi-Ski Module
• Three-Track / Four-Track Module

If your goal is to obtain Level II Adaptive certification and you still need Cognitive/VI Module, the exam above is for you. You will NOT need to retake the Teacher Prep or Functional Skiing Exam as long as you have took/passed these courses/exams before. All you'd have to attend is an Adaptive Module Day (1-day exam).
